Hello lovelies,
And here we are with the month of October. It sits solidly in the middle of Autumn and is the forth installment in the ‘restorative spaces’ series.
If you may be comparing the ‘restorative spaces’ mood boards with the ‘seasonal’ mood boards you may notice that the interior photos I have chosen have less going on by way of color. The reasoning is that they represent the essence of ‘restorative’ to me as a designer and the work I have done with my clients. They are more pared down and simple to create a sense of calm. They are to be a guide and inspiration for you to follow as best suits you. You can catch up with July here, August here and September here.
As a reminder seasonal color psychology is the study of color and how it’s tones and traits are mirrored in nature and can be relatable to nearly every aspect of design .. design in nature, fashion, interiors, print, florals, art etc. Here is a peek at the October color psychology mood board if you would like to see it.
October has a depth and solidity that is all it’s own. It is grounded, strong and utterly robust. It is fireplace fires, lamplight, books to be read and bountiful meals.

Asymmetry is even more important, of all the months it feels most suited to October. Furnishings have gravitas and meaning. They connect to our needed feelings of shelter; good food, safe and cozy corners, warmth and sheltered sleep. Colors are deep and rich, like an oil painting. Fabrics are textural, homespun in feel, hardworking and practical. Wood features prominently and metals tend to echo the look of wrought iron. Wool, velvet, felt, plaids, tartans, embroidery, hand knits and weaving are all at home in this month.
