hi, i’m dawn … an interior designer and seeker of simplicity, order, color and light … i also enjoy travel and have lived in four countries on three continents, but for some time now have made my home in rural minnesota, where i grew up. i live in the country in a small house that has needed a lot of tender loving care since it came into my hands. i share it and my life with a dear man, my lovely daughter and our sweet kitty. i share my day to day on instagram.
for as long as i can remember i have enjoyed making things look better than the way i have found them. perhaps this is in part the reason i became an interior designer. i believe with all my heart that the place we call home can greatly influence our outlook on life … for better or worse …
by having surroundings that nurture our sense of well-being and choosing useful and beautiful objects that we connect with, we can create a place (no matter how small or transient) that we long to take solace in. if we can see our homes as our safe place of connection and restoration, then that can allow us to seize opportunities that may otherwise pass unseen.
my work as a designer has taken its own journey as well … i began my career in the the u.k. working with national housing developers furnishing dozens of showhouses throughout the south of england, i then spent time in dubai u.a.e. at an upmarket showroom doing work for europeans and emirians including the owner of emirates airlines.
once i settled back in the states as principal of casa bella designs in the mid 90’s, i continued doing residential work, most of which has been greatly influenced by european and scandinavian sensibilities. over time i have greatly honed my ability to curate rooms that mix different regional styles and time periods into balanced, comforting and cohesive spaces. i have gained a wealth of knowledge in designing rooms that are sympathetic to their setting, have a sense of history, are light filled and orderly. most recently i am increasingly drawn to color psychology and how it simplifies the process of creating spaces that resonate at an emotional and sensory level. if you value quality, attention to detail and refinement of line, my work is likely to appeal to you.
we live in a world that is frenetic, fast and full. i believe the closer we can move toward living deeply, deliberately and with discernment the more enriched our lives can become.
with these thoughts in mind, bella visione was created to help others see their own ‘beautiful vision’. i hope to make this possible through my blog, my design work, e-courses and eventually books.
